The Counterfeiter. - George A. Evans, arrested on Saturday, in Richmond, on the charge of attempting to pass an altered $20 note of the Bank of Easton, Md. on Mr. F. Slaughter, of Fredericksburg, for $500, was arraigned before the Mayor Monday morning. Mr. D. T. G. Peters, of Lynchburg, testified that he had a similar note passed on him on the 20th March last, by a man calling himself A. Bowian, but that the prisoner was not the man. The Mayor, after hearing all the evidence, directed the accused to be taken to Fredericksburg, to answer for the attempt to pass a $500 counterfeit note on Mr. F. Slaughter. - R. Enq.
