Head Coach Epps
Announces Several
Important Changes

October 25 they engage the Alabama State Hornets from Montgomery Saturday next November 1, they take on Morehouse College's Maroon Tigers; and on November 8 they battle New Orleans' Xavier University Gold Rush for Clark's Homecoming classic. Remaining games on schedule are Fisk University, November 15; and the annual "Turkey-Day" game against Morris Brown College on Thanksgiving day in Atlanta's Herndon Stadium.

Epps has announced several changes among his 32 footballers - a couple of them probably significant. They include the shifting of Harold Barrett from right halfback to fullback; Newt Solomon from left halfback to quarterback; and Houston Ford from fullback to guard.

Keeping his promise that the Panthers would get scrimmage often, and would probably have a full dress, game style, before their opener with Fort Valley State Friday night, September 26 at Herndon Field, the Panthers went through an intra squad game Saturday.

The only non-participants in this game were Norris Muldrow of Cincinnati; Wallace Hartsfield of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Charles Stinson of Atlanta. These men were out because they received minor injuries.

PANTHER LINE LOOKS GOOD

Despite the loss of tackles Pat and Larkin Bell, and Guard Jerry Hobbs the Panthers will be fairly well off. Epps is banking on Ivan Mullins of Greenville, Ga. and Houston Ford or Delfield, Alabama for tackle positions. Mullins, valuable tackle who played with the Panthers in 1948 but was called to the Army at the end of the season, is a welcome face to the team. He has recently been discharged from the Air Force.

There will probably be some Adam's apples swallowed when Melvin Brown, halfback from Washington High School, trots on the field. He is fast, determined, and agile for his weight. He played right halfback for Washington High and may be used to advance the ball for the Clark Panthers.

Looking over his material Epps was moved to say that the offensive line appears stronger than a year ago at this time. "They're mostly upperclassmen up front, but we could do with more depth, particularly on defense," he said. However, he was optimistic to the point of conceding that he had some good underclassmen. "If we don't get hurt, and our luck holds up, I think we might do pretty well," he predicted.
