THREE GANGSTERS SHOT AND KILLED IN ILLINOIS

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill., April 16 (AP)—Three gangsters were shot to death in the Madison suburb here as they were enroute from Chicago to St. Louis.

One of the gangsters was Tommy Hayes, the leader of the "Cuckoo Gang" whose war with the "Russo" gang accounted for 20 deaths. The other two gangsters were Willie Wilbert and Harry "Pretty Boy" Lechler.

Hayes' body was found beside an expensive automobile some distance from the other two who were found on the road. Hayes had apparently attempted to escape.
