A goodly number of Elko's business men met at the District Courtroom last night to reorganize the Elko County Board of Trade. Edgar Reinhart, president of the old Board called the meeting to order and stated the object of the meeting and called for the election of temporary officers. As those present were there for business, they overruled the chairman and elected the following permanent officers: President, Edgar Reinhart; Vice president, H. J. Jones; Secretary, J. M. Morrow; treasurer J. A. McBride.
The constitution of the old board was read and adopted with the exception of the clause providing for monthly dues. On motion the chair appointed J. A. McBride, J. M. Morrow and A. W. Hesson a committee on constitution and by laws.
An executive committee of ten consisting of the four elective officers and A. W. Hesson, Thos Hunter, Dave Casper, S. Jacobs, R. H. Mallett and W. A. Booher, was also appointed.
The proposed Indian school was discussed and on motion the questions of sewage and land were referred to the executive committee.
An initiation fee of $1 was fixed for all members and those present settled with the treasurer.
After this necessary formality the Board adjourned to meet at the call of the president.
The Elko County Board of Trade was organized May 31, 1895 and held its last meeting on February 4, 1903. During its existence it set in motion the work that has resulted in the appropriation of $75,000 by the government for the establishment of an Indian school near Elko. As the school is now almost an assured fact the reorganization of the Board of Trade is timely. It will furnish an organized body to deal with questions relating not only to the Indian school, but also to the progress, welfare and prosperity of the town and county. It should therefore have the support of every citizen who has the best interests of the people at heart.
