From the Tucson Star

Joseph Smith, who owns some mining property in Arivaipa canyon, Graham county, arrived in the city this week and reports matters there in a prosperous condition. The ore produced by the mines there is galena and silver and assays about 40 per cent lead and about eighty-two ounces silver. The New York company are operating thirty-two prospects, most of which show well defined ledges, or true fissure leads.

This company has a road eight miles in length from Dunlap to the mines, sixteen feet wide and teams of any description can pass each other anywhere on the road with ease. A smelter will be put up soon, and the grading for that purpose is now being done. Altogether there are about thirty men employed, in one way or another, in Arivaipa. It is hard to get mail matter at Arivaipa, the mail reaching there only twice a week, being seventy miles from Wilcox and about thirty miles from San Carlos Indian reservation.
