Full Text

In consequence of the preparations for the consecration of the church edifice the eight o'clock mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception a few mornings ago, in New York, was solemnized in the chapel adjoining. As the five or six hundred persons in attendance were leaving the chapel at the conclusion of the service a fifteen-foot pillar supporting the roof gave way. Several persons were injured, but none severely. It is supposed that the unusual crowding of the chapel caused a depression in the floor, so loosening the pillar that it fell out.
