Editors Herald: - Oh, how lonesome the dear old Herald looks without a Slocum letter!

My friends haven't forgotten that I used to write for the Herald, and now they besiege me with questions as to why I do not write any more.

Crops are good. A good many farmers are diversifying their crops this year. Some planted potatoes and tomatoes, while others are experimenting with this Cuban tobacco. There will be ten or twelve acres of tobacco planted at this place. We wish them much success in this new industry.

We had a good rain today.

Health of the community is excellent.

Mr. Claude Denson is wearing a great broad smile - it's a girl.

Mr. and Mrs. Tony Rhodes of Pert visited Mr. J. F. Gray's family Saturday and Sunday.

Bro. Wadkins preached an able sermon Sunday. Quite a good audience was out to hear him.

Bro. Riall of Augusta and Bro. Lively of Grapeland were the visiting ministers.

Mr. Tom Gilmore and family, Mr. J. T. Lively and daughter, Miss Gertrude, and Miss Alice Hulan were guests of Bro. Wadkins' family Sunday.

Bro. Riall and Mr. Kennedy of Augusta, Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes of Pert, Mr. and Mrs. John Day and Mr. John Hulan were guests of Miss Cora Gray Sunday last.

Prof. H. R. Walters, Obie and Bert Alford, Misses Katie Vickery, Bula Bolton, Ella Denson and Elma Streety were guests of Misses Florence and Ruby Day Sunday.

Miss Georgie Lacky visited, and say to the all-wise Father, "Thy will be done; not ours."

'Tis hard to give up three of our young girls in less than six short months.

School is progressing nicely under the principalship of Prof. H. R. Walters. He was assisted by Miss Ruby Cromwell of Elkhart, but she left to attend school at Brushy Creek. We have had an excellent school this term, the fruits of good instructors. It will close Friday. We presume the Professor will take the students on a fishing excursion on Saturday.

We presume Mr. Sory of Palestine will erect a canning and basket factory here soon. This will be a decided improvement on our already prosperous little city.

Our merchants are doing a fine business these beautiful spring days.

Many thanks, Esau, for the compliment to Slocum girls. They are very famous for their beauty and accomplishments.

With best wishes for the Herald and correspondents, I will bid you adieu.

RIPPLES.
