However unphilosophical it may appear to some, to think that Providence concerns itself with the affairs of men, so as to influence the decisions of the sword; yet, unless the world made itself, it is absurd to suppose the Author of it quite indifferent to such affairs. The many striking Instances of such interpositions that we have experienced in our favour, during the course of this war, confirms such opinion. But the recent amazing success at the Havannah surely demonstrates a divine existence. The rainy season suspended; the mine sprung to destroy proving the very means of success: in short, if we duly consider this, with our inconsiderable loss and vast gain, it is impossible not to conclude a Divine Blessing on our arms; and therefore let the haughty, unjust Spaniard tremble at having at last provoked such power by his injustice and cruelty.
