Full Text
On Monday morning there were about 1,500 west bound travelers on the east side of the Missouri river, opposite Omaha; some had arrived on Thursday last, others on Friday and Saturday, and all were growling at the delay and expense. About two hundred men, claiming to be destitute, formed a procession and walked to the commodious waiting room of the depot and demanded that the Union Pacific, whose tickets they held, to either forward them or furnish food during their detention. The company conceded them a free dinner and promised to feed them until they began running trains west. Three hundred meal tickets were issued to them. There was no violence, the justice of the demand being at once acknowledged.
