THE FEDERAL PARTY.

The Democratic Republicans have all along told the people, that it was the policy of the Federal party, to retard the proceedings and clog the wheels of Government. At the late Faneuil Hall dinner, Mr. Webster made a speech, and, overcome by the softening influences of the occasion, told the truth, and confirmed all that has been said by the Democratic Republicans, and denied by the Federalists: He said: "We have been, with one short intermission, continuously in session for nearly ten months; from the commencement of the called session in September to the close of the regular session the present month. During this unusually long period, the public service did not allow us to re-visit our homes. On our part, it has been rather a struggle for prevention than the attainment of any positive benefit."

This is a pretty confession, to be sure, from the mouth of one of the Federal or "Whig" candidates for the Presidency. In the ordinary concerns of life, if a man were employed by another to perform certain duties, and were to exert his talents in preventing any "positive benefit" to his employer, he would be set down as a base fellow, deserving severe punishment. But here is the "god-like" Daniel, at his bacchanalian confessions, avowing that he and his party struggled for prevention and not to produce any "positive benefit." The objects of Webster and his party were clearly understood by the Democracy. Whatever might tend to embarrass the Government, and distress the people, met with Federal support, that the blame might be laid upon the Government; and thus the Federalists hoped to operate upon the elections. Yes; the designs of Federalism were clearly understood and exposed by the Democracy -and now they are plainly avowed by a "crested leader" of the disorganizing host.
