Several Couriers arrived here of Late from Paris, and are immediately sent back with Answers to their Dispatches; but what is said of the Negotiations on the Tapis, are but mere Conjectures: some People give out, that a Treaty of Commerce is almost concluded between the two Courts: However it be, we have laid aside the Preparations that were making for the Reception of the Marquis de Argenson, who was expected with the Character of the Ambassador from the King of France.
The British Squadron commanded by Admiral Haddock, cruises off Cape St. Vincent, and visits all the Ships passing that Way. Two of our Men of War are sailed from Tagus, to convoy home the Ships from the Bay of All Saints, which are out at Sea. The Dolphin, a Dutch Man of War, commanded by Capt. Akkerloot, has likewise set sail from hence, in order to cruise upon the Corsairs of Sallee.
