Comedy in Real Life is Enacted on Station Platform in Keokuk.
Keokuk, Jan. 27.—The Brothers Royer spectacular trick comedy, "Next Door," played a trick engagement in real life in Keokuk this week. Tuesday night the "all star cast" appeared at the Keokuk opera house, entertaining empty seats. Next morning it was discovered that the manager, Archie Royer, his wife, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law, had disappeared. Constable Warner hurriedly placed an attachment on the properties of the company at the depot. In the absence of the constable the goods were loaded and taken away by the train. R. P. Schaaf, station baggageman, was arrested on the charge of allowing the attached goods to be shipped, on the charge of resisting an officer, and his trial is pending.
Royer, the manager, is originally from Memphis, Mo., and it is thought he and his party have gone there, while it is thought the car on the C. B. & Q. railroad containing the attached goods will be returned here. The actors are left in the lurch, one man claiming that the company owed him $90.
The company was to have appeared at Oskaloosa Wednesday night.
