Atlanta Univ. Names Acting Comptroller G. CLETUS BIRCHETTE

G. Cletus Birchette, superintendent of the Houston Negro Hospital (Houston, Texas), has received an appointment as acting comptroller of Atlanta University. President Rufus E. Clement announced this week. He took over his new duties on February 15.

A native of Asheville, North Carolina, Mr. Birchette was educated at the Stephens Lee High School (Asheville, N. C.), William Business College (Atlanta), Morehouse College, Atlanta University and the University of Houston. At Atlanta University he earned the M. A. degree in economics in 1938

Of wide experience, Mr. Birchette has held the following positions: assistant in the Atlanta offices of J. B. Blayton & Co., Certified Accountants; industrial secretary of the Atlanta Negro Chamber of Commerce; registrar and business manager of State A&T College, Forsyth, Ga.; projects supervisor, National Youth Administration of North Carolina (Bricks, N. C.); area supervisor, National Youth Administration of North Carolina (Charlotte, N. C.); university accountant and instructor, Department of Business, Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mo. Mr. Birchette can also claim experience as assistant to the president and secretary to the Board, Lincoln University (Missouri); business manager of Delaware State College and business manager at the Houston Negro Hospital

Active in civic welfare organizations, Mr. Birchette has served as a member of the Houston Negro Chamber of Commerce; as vice president of the Business and Professional Men's Club of Houston; as chairman of Pack Committee No. 51 Cub Scouts; as chairman of the Negro Blood Bank Committee, Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross; and as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Practical Nurse Training Department of the Adult Evening Schools of Houston

Mrs. Birchette is the former Louise Hobart of Forsyth, Georgia, who is a graduate of Morris Brown College. The Birchettes have one daughter
