On April 7, 1766, in Chester-Town, Maryland, gentlemen celebrate the Stamp Act repeal by opening a subscription for a monument in Annapolis honoring William Pitt's defense of British American rights. They raise 30 guineas and propose county representatives to meet and plan the project, hoping for similar efforts across the province and continent.

To Mr. JONAS GREEN.
SIR,
Last Evening, on receiving the most agreeable News here, of the Repeal of the Stamp-Act, a few Gentlemen, that met on that interesting Occasion, opened a Subscription for the Purpose of erecting a Monument at the City of Annapolis, in Maryland, (being the Seat of Government and the most public Place in the Province) to the Honour of Mr. PITT, to stand to the latest Time, in grateful Remembrance of his Patriotick Defence and Support of the Rights, Liberties and Privileges of British Americans; Thirty Guineas were presently subscribed, and we doubt not a very considerable Sum will soon be raised in our County, and we hope the Gentlemen of every County in the Province will do the like. We would propose that some one Gentleman in each County should be appointed to receive the Subscription Money, and that a Day should be set for those Gentlemen to meet at Annapolis, and agree upon a Plan for executing the Work in the best and most respectable Manner the Sum of Money raised will afford. We hope the same grateful Sense of that worthy Gentleman's very extraordinary Merit, will be shown in every Colony on this Continent.
Yours, &c.
