Belligerent Ministers of Peace!
OR
WARHAWKS BECOME DOVES.

The President of the United States has nominated Mr. Henry Clay, of Kentucky (now Speaker of the House of Representatives) and Mr. Jonathan Russell (notorious in the diplomatic mysteries respecting the Berlin and Milan decrees) as Commissioners, jointly with Messrs. Bayard and Adams, to conduct the negotiations with the British Commissioners, on behalf of the United States at Gottenburgh. Mr. Russell is also nominated as the Resident Minister at the Swedish Court.

These nominations, together with the extraordinary measures to fill the army, we are told, have had the effect to raise the price of foreign articles in the market, as darkening the prospect of peace.

It is supposed both Mr. Adams and Mr. Bayard are in favour of peace. Clay and Russell will balance them.

It is truly laughable, to take a man from the woods of Kentucky, to negotiate a treaty for the security of free trade and sailors' rights!—Salem Gaz.
