A Neglected Crumb.

The $9,000 of gold dust, belonging to the State, remarks the Sacramento Union at the time of the resignation of the late State Treasurer, and which should then have been in the vaults, has never "turned up," and has not been accounted for. The apology given for its abstraction was that it had been sent to the mint for coinage, and that the mint receipt would be forthcoming. It has however, not been produced, and the only inference to be drawn at this time is, that the money has been used for private purposes. We doubt if it ever will find its way back to the Treasury. It is more than probable that Col. Rowe, the honest, pure-minded, trusted clerk of Dr. Bates, has made away with it long ago. Col. Watkins, investigate the matter and ascertain whether it was sent to the mint.
