BODY OF VICTIM OF PRINCE GEORGE FIRE IS RECOVERED

KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Sept. 27.— A small wooden box containing the remains of Fireman Verdun McDaniels, victim of the fire which destroyed the Canadian National passenger liner Prince George Saturday, was taken from the hulk through a hole cut in the side of the vessel yesterday.

Wielding an acetylene torch, Welder Don Smothers cut his way into the vessel and found McDaniels, who had been trapped by the blaze.

The fire, of undetermined origin, had menaced shipping until Coast Guardsmen towed the burning craft around Pennock Island.

The officers and crew of the Prince George stood with bared heads as the body came from the vessel.
