Full Text

The last Northern papers contain the Memorial of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions to the President of the United States, requesting his interference on behalf of the two Missionaries now imprisoned in the Georgia Penitentiary. To this memorial the Secretary of War (Gov. Cass) replies, in the name and by the authority of the President, declining to interfere in the matter.—So that the Missionaries have no hope but from the "tender mercies" of the Georgians themselves—who, as they have abolished the Penitentiary system, will, we presume, hang its inmates.
