The State of Connecticut is a Sober and wise State. Its political thermometer is nicely graduated, and describes every vicissitude accurately. The following sentiments, expressed at a late festival, corroborate this opinion.
The United States—May their union be continued, unless the rust of Democracy shall so far corrode the chain as to render it impossible either to mend or to brighten it.
The Constitution of the United States— May it be written of it, as of the Christian System, that " the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
President Adams—May we regard him for his former good works, and may he be saved from being ensnared by those who greet with a kiss, that they may destroy.
Memory of our immortal Washington—May his peaceful manes never be disturbed by innovating on the wise system of administration which he adopted.
