Agenda for Alaska Chamber Meeting
Development of Alaska's road program, recently placed under jurisdiction of the Bureau of Public Roads, will be a major point of discussion during the Alaska Chamber of Commerce meeting Oct. 25-27 in Seward.
Al Polet of Fairbanks, president of the all-Alaska group, announced this week that speakers will include Morton Flint, newly assigned BPR administrator for Alaska; A. F. Ghiglione, former chief of the Alaska Road Commission; Frank A. Metcalf, newly elected territorial highway engineer, and the Territorial Board of Road Commissioners.
Chamber delegates from throughout the territory will attend the three-day session. A special convention train is scheduled by the Alaska Railroad to leave Anchorage for Seward at noon Thursday.
Polet Urges
Polet has urged Chamber members planning to attend the meeting to make their reservations in advance thru the Rev. Charles Main of Seward, convention chairman. The convention train is being offered by the ARR at a price of $10 round trip and is scheduled to connect with nearly all airlines so that an overnight stay in Anchorage will not be necessary.
Registration of delegates in Seward will be held Thursday afternoon, winding up with a cocktail party that evening. The first business session will open at 9:30 a.m. Friday and will include invocation by the Rev. Mr. Main, a welcome by the mayor of Seward and the president of the Seward Chamber.
Opening Address
Opening address will be delivered by Gov. B. Frank Heintzleman. The morning's program will kick off the subject of roads with addresses by Brig. Comdr. H. L. Mueser of the Northwest Highway System, and Morton Flint of the BPR. The entire afternoon will be devoted to the subject. At lunch, small Chambers will report on their year's activities.
Touristry Report
At 4 p.m. Friday reports will be given by Frank Whaley on touristry; by Al Anderson, chief of the Resource and Development Board, on resources; and by Chas. Clark, president of the Alaska Jr. Chamber of Commerce, on "The Jaycee Story." Speaker at the Friday night banquet will be Anthony Lause, general manager of the Alaska Railroad. He will talk on the Interior Dept. and its role in Alaska.
