The assembly on Mackinac Island represents a great step forward in the co-operation and planning of nations of both East and West, and in the world program of Moral Re-Armament which has won for its founder, Pennsylvania born Dr. Frank N. D. Buchman nomination for the 1951 Nobel peace prize.
"Inspired democracy is the democracy that wins," says the invitation to the Mackinac assembly. "Our armed might grows day by day. But the headlines confess our weaknesses. Corruption, confusion, carelessness, connivery and crime undermine our unity at home and forfeit the confidence of millions in Europe, Asia and Africa.
We know what needs to be done: Right and wrong-absolute standards of behavior to be recognized, fought for and lived. Unity above party, class, race, point of view and personal advantage to be established in our industrial, political, military and international life.
"This assembly will bring together men from all corners of the earth with a tested experience of Moral Re-Armament, and the skill to make it effective with speed in the life of nations."
