NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Addition of two railroad safety inspectors to the staff of the Railroad Commission carried out the campaign pledge of Gov. Clement, who advocating improvements in safety laws, says S. A. Para, BRT state representative.
There is now one railroad inspector assigned to each Grand Division of the state. The new inspectors are L. C. Pulliam (Lodge 351), Knoxville; and A. D. Green (Lodge 347), Memphis. J. T. Reeves (Lodge 648), who was appointed in 1949, retains headquarters in Nashville.
Speaking of the importance of appointing the inspectors, Para said: "In proposing expansions of inspection service necessary to the enforcement of the existing and future safety laws, along with the enactment of a safe minimum crew law, we were mindful that the best safety laws possible . . . become but empty gestures if not properly administered and enforced."
Therefore, said Para, the governor was strongly urged to provide adequate safety inspection on the railroads, which was done with appointment of the inspectors.
