Full Text

Brown's majority over McClurg in Missouri is 41,067, with twenty counties to hear from. These twenty counties will probably increase the majority to 45,000.

All the power and patronage of President Grant were exerted against Brown, and the colored vote of the State was thrown against him almost solidly, yet he received the support of about two-thirds of all the voters in the State. A more stinging or merited rebuke was never administered to an administration since the formation of the Republic.

An irate old gentleman who runs a little Radical paper in White county, says that the Bulletin, once upon a time, confessed that it had slandered certain Republican candidates, and humbly begged pardon for its baseness. The irate old gentleman is mistaken. The Bulletin never did any such thing, and we stand ready to wager the old gentleman $50 against nothing, or against his interest in heaven, which amounts to nothing—that he cannot find a paragraph nor a sentence in the columns of the Bulletin that intimates even a desire to recall a single expression ever used by us in a political canvass. If he wants greater "odds" than we offer him let him stake something that is worse than nothing—his reputation for veracity, for instance.
