ANSWERS.
1. Out of total of 158,055 inspections made 31,888 measures, pumps, scales were condemned and 4,609 confiscated. These inspections are made by the Bureau of Weights and Measures of the Department of Agriculture, and for the purpose of protecting the buying public.
2. Lieutenant Colonel John A. Young, a textile manufacturer of Charlotte, made gifts of a uniform and cap to 1100 soldiers of his detachment.
3. The State has five hatcheries for the inland fisheries division. These are the Morrison Hatchery, Steadman Hatchery, Murphy Hatchery, Roaring Gap Hatchery and Boone Hatchery. The total operating expenses amount to about $43,000 annually. Sale of licenses to fishermen more than cover this expense. The last fiscal year reported license sales amounted to $59,964.
4. Representative Sevier had been outlawed by a special act of a previous session because he had been one of the leaders in the attempt to establish the State of Franklin from that part of North Carolina lying west of the Blue Ridge, now the State of Tennessee. Sevier had been elected governor of the State of Franklin. When the State of Franklin collapsed in 1788 the entire territory came back under the jurisdiction of North Carolina.
5. The total Al Smith vote was 286,227 in 1928 while Mr. Roosevelt was given 497,566 in 1932 and 616,151 in 1936.
6. Major William McK. Robbins of Salisbury. Major Robbins was appointed in 1893 to membership on the Gettysburg National Park commission. The duties of his membership on this commission included preparation of inscriptions on battlefield monuments.
