Since our last, we have an Account of the Arrival of the Ship Boyd, Capt. Mayne, in Rappahannock, in about 8 Weeks from Glasgow; which brings an Account, That on the 17th of January, there was a smart Skirmish, at Falkirk, about 6 Miles from Stirling, between some of the King's Forces, commanded by the Generals Hawley and Huske, and the main Body of the Rebels; in which it is pretended, that the Rebels got the better; altho' it is at the same Time allow'd, that the Rebels had double the Number of Men kill'd, as were of the King's Forces. It is said, that Hamilton's and Gardner's Dragoons gave way again, and that the Rebels had taken some Pieces of our Cannon, and kept the Field. On the other Hand, it is said the aforesaid Dragoons, charg'd at their first Onset with great Bravery, but were broke by the regular Fire of the Rebels; and it is confidently asserted, and allow'd to be true, that the Rebels have been oblig'd to raise the Siege of Stirling, and are fled precipitately towards the Highlands, leaving Stirling, and the Country thereabouts, in Possession of the King's Forces. On the 31st of January, the Duke of Cumberland arriv'd at Edinburgh, and on the 2d of February, he arriv'd at Stirling: and as he is to be speedily join'd by a great Number of His Majesty's Forces, and 6000 Hessians are hourly expected to land in Scotland, there is no doubt but such Measures will be taken, as will effectually put a Stop to the unnatural Rebellion, and restore Peace to His Majesty's Dominions again.
