Full Text
We are daily amused with fabricated accounts, said to come from various quarters, but in reality originating among us, on the subject of British policy towards the United States. We are now assured that the administration of that country will undoubtedly make restitution for the property captured in consequence of their orders. No, No!—British pride is not at so low an ebb—and they never authorised plunder with an intention to refund.
Their policy has been to weaken us by rapine and soothe us with words; and words are the only coin we shall be paid in; when they will no longer do, they will commence open hostilities, and this crisis does not appear at any great distance.
