Full Text

Mr. James Perkins, who lately came passenger into Providence, from Monte-Christi, gives the following account, viz. That on the 20th of April last, he sailed from Ipswich, as mate of the Falmouth, Capt. Goodhue, bound for Dominica; that five days afterwards, being then in lat. 36 long. 63, the sloop unhappily sprung a leak, and the water increased so fast upon them, that 'twas with the utmost difficulty they could keep her from sinking, from one hour to another; that they continued in this situation till the 23d of April, when (every other resource having failed) it was judged necessary to cut away her mast; but this gave her but a short respite, for on the 9th of May, (in lat. 30 long. 59) she sunk. That the Capt. and the rest of the people, being six in number, took to their boat, with such necessaries as they could get at, and after being tossed upon the ocean for 28 days, in the most imminent danger of perishing, they arrived at Monte Christ, in good health, tho' greatly fatigued.
