TO READERS AND CORRESPONDENTS.
"A Vision" will appear in due time.
The Author, like the prophet Hosea, has "used similitudes" and looked at strange things through the telescope of Fancy. Our political Christians in their journey up the "Hill Difficulty," want a Bunyan to describe both the "Den of Lions," and the "Slough of Despond."
"TRISTRAM," has a right to the family name of Shandy. As we respect this race, we cordially take a descendant by the hand, and propose, some evening this week, to introduce him into public company.
We recommend to the perusal of every sober and moral man the article in the Gazette of to-day, signed INDIGNATION. It exposes with energy the foul deformity of that state of things, where a convicted felon is stationed on the judgment seat. Among other "monstrous and prodigious things" in a state government, the terms "filching judge," and "innocent criminals," will soon be current and popular.
No labors of research, and no expense of time and minuteness of enquiry are spared to render our Marine List accurate and copious. All the port papers are daily ransacked, and the Coffee-House books are looked into with care and regularity. We have a right to affirm a more detailed and prolix Marine Journal cannot be found in any paper of the United States.
