DAMAGE AWARD TO MAN WHO CRITICIZED MEAT

Alexandria, S. D., June 23.—It cost Elmer Johnson, a well known farmer of this vicinity, $150 in cash, fees for a lawyer and several days' time attending court for chastising a man who criticised the quality of meat furnished at the Johnson home to members of a threshing crew. Everett Bonk was the one who made remarks about the meat. When Johnson heard of this he had an interview with Bonk. The lie was passed, and in the ensuing fight Bonk was so badly bruised up and had his nervous system so badly shattered that he instituted a suit against Johnson for damages in the sum of $3,000.

As the result of the trial of the case just concluded in the state circuit court, the jury awarded Bonk damages in the sum of $150.
