ARRIVAL OF THE WASHINGTON.
Highly Important from Europe; 11 Days Later: State of the Flour, Grain, and Cotton Market; Affairs in Ireland, &c.
The steamship Washington sailed from Liverpool on the 10th, and was compelled to put back for more coal. She experienced heavy easterly winds and head seas during the passage, and reached New York after a passage of 20 days:
Fearful riots are raging in some parts of Ireland—caused partly by the Famine and partly by the oppressive exactions of the landlords.
The heavy decline in Corn which took place at the beginning of the month has been checked. Since the 12th the market has again given way. The prospects of receiving still larger supplies from the United States and by way of the Mediterranean, added to the fine weather which prevails in all quarters depressed, which presented every prospect of an upward movement.
The potato crop is represented as favorable, and contributed not a little to affect prices.
