A Horse In the River.

Yesterday afternoon a horse belonging to Michael Megary, furniture dealer, No. 519 Tatnall street, while standing on Warner's freight wharf, became frightened, ran off and despite the efforts to stop him, plunged into the Christiana drawing a wagon load of furniture after him. A boy who was in the wagon jumped out just in time to escape going into the water. Warner's employes rushed to the wharf as soon as the horse went over, got a scow, and by cutting the harness released the horse from the weight of the wagon, holding its head above water, meanwhile. Ropes were then fastened around the animal, and it was hoisted out by means of a crane on the wharf. Subsequently the wagon, with its load of furniture, was fished out. The accident caused a great excitement, and drew a large crowd to the wharf.
