Cumberland NFA's, NHA's Attend Camp
Four NFA boys and three NHA girls from I. P. Jackson High School spent the week of July 26 to the 31 at the NFA-NHA Camp in Chesterfield County.
Transportation was furnished by vocational instructors, Mrs. G. B. Holland and R. L. Scales, who are advisors of the groups.
Campers were Jean Hardy, Barbara Booker and Ardell Jones, Joseph Fleming, James Gilliam, Giles Gibson and William Bolden.
Joseph Fleming, 10th grade NFA member, received an expense-paid trip to the Camp from the Cumberland NFA Chapter because of his scholastic achievement during the past year at the I. P. Jackson High School. Fleming held the highest scholastic average among the NFA boys in his high school studies last school year.
Campers engaged in boating and fishing, music and dancing, games, sports, arts and crafts.
Each night during the week, except Wednesday, a group of boys from one school and a group of girls from another school combined their talents and presented programs of entertainment. On Wednesday night all of the campers went to the movies on the campus of Virginia State College in Petersburg.
On Friday night, at the Honors Night program, Jean Hardy, of Cumberland was voted the best camper of the week among the girls.
From the favorable comments and expressions of those who attended the camp everyone had a wonderful time and is looking forward to going back next year.
