CHARLESTON, Sept. 4.

Mr. J. B. Jarboe, gunner, and Mr. James Love, sail maker, on board the brig Jane, of Baltimore, which was captured and sent into Barracoa, and who arrived at this port in the brig Lear, have furnished us with the following particulars of that action:--

On the morning of the 25th July, off the Plataform, were engaged by the French privateer Superb, capt. Dominique, mounting 6 guns, with 87 men, completely accoutred with muskets, &c. The Jane mounted ten carriage guns, and at the commencement of the action had 44 men, 6 of whom were too sick to stand the deck: her commander capt. William Kenneday, was killed early in the action, which lasted about one hour, when the privateersmen carried the Jane by boarding, after being twice before beaten off in attempting it. On boarding the Frenchmen behaved in the most shameful and cruel manner; Mr. Anderson, the mate, who was wounded in the arm, and who was the only officer remaining on deck when they came on board, was immediately cut down with their sabres, as was also one man and a boy, who had not secured their retreat by running below-- Mr. Fanning, supercargo of the schooner which was captured in company, and who had taken passage in the brig for safety, was thrown overboard, and endeavouring to swim to the privateer, was wantonly shot while in the water. The rest of the crew of the Jane were cruelly treated by the privateersmen, and plundered of every thing.

The following are the names, which can be recollected, of those who were killed or wounded on board the Jane.--The whole number was 17 killed and 9 wounded.
