Full Text

Mr. Miller—As your paper, for the most part, contains sound political views, and often articles of utility and interest, I frequently take much pleasure in reading it. I was gratified with the article which recently appeared in the Journal, entitled "LA FAYETTE." My heart kindled with interesting sensations, as soon as I commenced reading it. These continued until I had finished it, and were mingled with pleasant thoughts of the patriots of all countries, of whom I have ever heard, or read. Judge then of the terrible mental repercussion I underwent, when in the next article, I fell upon "Sam Patch!" Sam Patch, thought I—had it been "Tom Thumb," "Jack the giant killer," or "Molly put the kettle on," I had never before made the vile association of "LA FAYETTE," and "Sam Patch."

I should have gladly spared the former, but it is over with me: now La Fayette and the jumping hero of Niagara, will be forever stowed away together, among the lumber of my brains. Will you be kind enough, Mr. Miller, if it be convenient, in your future Journals, to put your Sam Patches among your advertisements of "patent medicines," and "shoe blacking?"
