Full Text

It is very evident that the editor of the Hartford Times believes the coal strike is being continued for the benefit of the republican party, and that it will be stopped at a time when it will do the G. O. P. the most good. We quote from the Times: "Election day in November comes on the 4th of that month. That time is thirty-six days distant. Some time within that thirty-six days the coal strike will come to an end. It was started with due reference to the elections and it will not be protracted after the elections are over. When it is certain that no republican votes can be lost by protecting the mines and mine workers the state authorities will wake up and show some vigor. This is indicated by a dispatch from Harrisburg in to-day's Tribune: 'It is gradually dawning on the state authorities that the few men now on duty at the strike centers are inadequate to cope with the situation, and it is said that the impatience now being shown in all parts of the state at the continuance of mob rule and the scarcity of coal will cause the calling out of the entire National Guard. Governor Stone himself is authority for the statement that he will call out every man in the guard, if necessary, and spare no cost to suppress disorder. The starting of the mines and the consequent disorder would be the excuse for ordering out the troops.'"
