Washington (LPA) - Miss Frieda S. Miller, head of the Women's Bureau of the Department of Labor since 1944, has been replaced by Mrs. Alice K. Leopold, Secretary of State in Connecticut. That's another $10,300 job for the GOP.
Miss Miller was appointed to the post by the then Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins, whom she has succeeded as Industrial Commissioner of New York State. When Eisenhower was elected Miss Miller submitted her resignation. It was accepted November 19.
Secretary of Labor James P. Mitchell wrote Miss Miller that he "regretted that the period we were able to work together was so short ...I have known of the high quality of your work over the years and of the degree to which the Women's Bureau was strengthened and its activities broadened during your tenure in office."
Mrs. Leopold has had a long public career, is now secretary of President Eisenhower's Intergovernmental Relations Committee.
A graduate of Goucher College in Baltimore, Mrs. Leopold served as personnel director for several department stores and also has been a designer and manufacturer of children's toys.
