THE PRESIDENT'S VISIT.

The Federal Legislature of Massachusetts, it is well known, have passed sundry resolutions with a view of making a grand display at the President's proposed visit to the North. They intend, doubtless, in the reception of the man they have so much abused, to eclipse his fast and staunch friends, who have stood by him in the worst of times, and oblige them as in the visit of Mr. Monroe, to fall in their wake, and be suffered only, to be a sort of make-weight in the business. The following remarks of the Hartford Times, relative to the Massachusetts resolutions, are very much in point, and we doubt not will fully accord with the feelings of the Democratic party in this quarter.

"This may all answer very well, if intended merely as complimentary to the President ; but should he visit New-England, as we trust he will the present season, it will not be his desire to have any pomp and parade attend his reception ; nor will his friends wish to see him surrounded by his opponents, clothed with official authority from Federal Legislatures. In visiting this section of the country, the President will' choose to become acquainted with the people themselves. It is not to conciliate or gratify his enemies; it is not to receive the sycophantic homage of men who are using their wealth to injure him and his supporters : but a strong desire to examine our institutions, to have intercourse with the people, and to take by the hand the independent freemen who are sustaining the country, and have proved themselves under no ordinary trials devoted to republican principles."
