"A meeting of the Demo's was called, a few nights ago, at Tilton's, to receive Logan's report of his mission to France; the meeting being composed chiefly of young friends, it is believed to have been a contrivance of Dickinson's, that they may cry "blessed are the peacemakers."
Poole, Star and the rest are highly pleased with the mission, and believe the exertions of their envoy to have been highly useful.
Logan told them, if the difference between this country and France was not accommodated, it would be the fault of this government, and not of the Directory;-he acknowledged he had letters from the Vice to persons of distinction there, and said if you Republicans would address a petition to the French Directory, you would get what you please to ask-He soon found he had gone too far, and observed he meant the government of the United States. Thus much has leaked out."
