RIOT.
By the Rochester papers of Thursday, we learn that considerable excitement existed there, in consequence of the arrest of the principal negroes of the place. It appears a gentleman formerly of Palmyra, but latterly from the South, was accompanied by a female slave, as a servant, whom the negroes of Palmyra, aided by those of Rochester, attempted to abduct, and for that purpose attacked the House of Mrs. Williams, the mother of the gentleman in question, in the course of the night, but were unable to enter. A gun was fired at them, which slightly wounded two negroes—they returned the fire without injuring any one, and then commenced demolishing the windows and doors. The alarm was sounded, and numbers repaired to the spot, when the negroes fled. The slave had no desire to leave, and positively refused when urged by them.
