WASHINGTON, March 30—(AP)—Francis B. Sayre, high commissioner to the Philippines, today released the names of more than 1,500 persons, mostly Americans, interned in Manila and said that the International Red Cross was attempting to secure the appointment of a Swiss citizen to act as its representative there.
Information obtained by such a representative, he explained, would be forwarded to the next of kin by the information bureau of the army provost marshal general's office which maintains direct cable connections with the International Red Cross at Geneva.
Sayre said the list of persons interned by the Japanese in Manila could not be guaranteed as to accuracy and that it did not contain the names of all the Americans who were there at
the outbreak of the war. He added that he had no information concerning persons not on the list.
The high commissioner said that it was "difficult and dangerous" to attempt to communicate with Americans in Manila, pointing out that persons in occupied areas discovered to be in touch with American authorities would be liable to heavy Japanese penalties.
The name of Mrs. David Boguslay (the former Peggy Bruell of Mount Clemens) was not included in the list revealed today. Mrs. Boguslav, whose husband was editor of the Manila Tribune, has not been heard from since the Jap invasion of the Philippines began. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bruell, 139 Market street.
