Narrow Escape from Death.—In this city, a few days since, two children came near losing their lives by inhaling gas from a common coal stove. They had been left alone, and the fire becoming too hot, the little boy turned the damper, in consequence of which the room was soon filled with gas. The children became stupefied by inhaling it, but being ignorant of the cause of their sensations, they remained in the room. When the family returned, the little girl had fallen and was stretched senseless upon the floor, and the boy was so far overcome as to be unable to walk or give any alarm. In a little time longer, both would probably have been lifeless; but with fresh air and proper restoratives, they recovered. Worcester Transcript.

When every family in the country who keep these murderous contrivances called dampers in their house, have as narrow an escape as that recorded above, the stopping up of stove-pipes will probably cease.
