Johnny Mendelsohn won his first skirmish against Auditorium fight promoters when he practically forced the Cream City Athletic club to live up to his signed contract to box Pal Moran, New Orleans, in the feature bout Nov. 26. This decision was hurriedly reached by the boxing commission when Harry Mendelsohn, through his attorney, petitioned the commission to instruct the club to observe the contract. Court action was threatened unless this was done. As a result of the commission's instructions to the club to stage the Mendelsohn-Moran fight Nov. 26, the Pinkey Mitchell-Nate Goldman contest, postponed to that date, has been rescheduled for Dec. 14.
When Mendelsohn presented petition to the commission, the promoters answered by stating that Moran could not be brought here to box Johnny Nov. 26, but Moran's signed contract was already on the way and is now in the hands of the commission. Although the commission has granted the Nov. 26 date to Mendelsohn, there are certain other matters in the petition which the commission cannot think lightly over.
As for the Moran-Mendelsohn tilt, the scrap should be a good one. Moran's recent knockout of Charlie White has made him a big card all over the country and even Benny Leonard admitted the other day that Pal was a greatly improved boxer and that he himself may possibly meet the New Orleans boy in Tia Juana in January.
