Treasury Chambers of St. Peters Is Robbed

ROME. July 6. The Stefani agency says thieves made an opening last night and entered the second Treasury Chamber of St Peters with a rope ladder, and stole St Peters ring set with sapphires and diamonds which the Archbishop of Orleans gave Pope Pius the Second.

The gold altar service adorned with diamonds, pearls and other gems, was also stolen.

ROME. July 6. Cardinal Merry Delaval, Arch Priest, estimated the loot taken as over 1,000,000 lire. Many objects cannot be replaced. The burglars overlooked many other precious offerings. The Italian government promises to prosecute the investigation.

The audacity of the thieves has stirred indignation throughout the country.
