Much excitement in this vicinity during the past week relative to a Mammoth Cave which has been discovered about 12 miles west of this place. Many of our citizens have made a visit to the place, and report it as one of the most wonderful curiosities of the world. The entrance is at the foot of a large bluff and is represented as being so small, as to cause visitors to crawl upon their hands and knees for about a hundred feet, when they find themselves in a large Chamber, and in passing onward many rooms are found varying in height from three to thirty feet. Many have been in to the distance of from one half a mile to a mile, without finding any limit to the dimensions of the cave. It is represented as being divided into different rooms by partition walls; and the stone hanging from the ceiling, and standing upon the floor, represent various forms of animals, pillars, &c, &c. It is undoubtedly a very great curiosity and will continue to excite the attention of our people, until it shall have been thoroughly explored; and the dimensions of the mammoth cavern found. We understand arrangements are being made for this purpose, and that a general exploration will be made in a few days, when the result of the interesting investigation will doubtless be given to the world; until then, no particular description can be given.
