Missile Exhibit
Planned
During Area Armed Forces Week
Guided missile exhibits, band concerts, parades and "Open House" special events are planned as part of the Newport area observance of Armed Forces Week.
Armed Forces Week, a tribute to the nation's military might, will run this year from 15 through 21 May.
As in years past, the 1960 theme will be "Power For Peace."
Newport's special commemoration of Armed Forces Week has been set for Sunday, 15 May, at Easton's Beach where the public will be treated to displays and exhibitions by the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.
Included in the Armed Forces Sunday program will be static displays of guided missiles, a band concert, drill team exhibitions, and an introduction of dignitaries, civilian and military, associated with the special observance.
On Saturday, 21 May, Armed Forces Day at the Newport Naval Base, practically all East Side Narragansett Bay Naval Activities will hold "Open House."
Special demonstrations are being planned at each of the activities.
A corps of midshipmen from the Officer Candidate School will pass in review before military and civil dignitaries.
In addition to military demonstrations and events at each of the Naval Base component commands, window displays throughout the Newport area will depict the activities and operations of each of the various commands.
Navy speakers will tell the Navy's contributions toward "Power For Peace" to this area's business associations, civic organizations and student bodies.
Armed Forces Day 1960 is intended to symbolize the common interest and interdependence of all the Armed Forces.
Through demonstrations, Armed Forces Day affords the Armed Forces (continued on Page 4
