OKLAHOMA COTTON ACREAGE REDUCED
Oklahoma City, May 28.-A 40 per cent reduction in cotton acreage was forecast for the state of Oklahoma by directors of the Oklahoma Cotton Growers Association in session here Wednesday and Thursday. They made specific reports for 15 scattered counties, including Harmon, Jackson, Greer, Caddo, Tillman, Jefferson, Garvin, Carter, McCurtain, Pittsburg, Le Flore, Sequoyah, Pottawatomie and Lincoln.
"This is the first definite and authentic estimate we have had on the percentage of acreage reduction," said Carl Williams, editor of the Oklahoma Farmer-Stockman and member of the permanent board of cotton association, Wednesday night. "We may take this estimate as fairly accurate. This reduction is not a result of the activities of any organization or group, but of a general outpouring of sentiment against the production of cotton to the exclusion of other crops. The cotton growers of the state are coming to realize that food and feed, as well as cotton and other cash crops must be grown on Oklahoma farms."
