Full Text

Nov. 13. Last Thursday, about 1 o'clock in the afternoon, two fellows, one of whom seemed to be a countryman, fell to playing pitch and toss near the new church in the Strand. The countryman won all the other fellow's money, who (like a true gamester) ventured his coat, waistcoat, hat, and shirt, in order to recover it back; but he lost all, and was obliged to go home stark naked. His clothes were sold upon the spot to a Jew, who got a dead pennyworth of them. The countryman would have given him his shirt, had it not been for his ill manners.
