Appropriate Memorial Exercises Held at Oakland Cemetery Under the Direction of Workman Post.
Wednesday was an ideal day for the outdoor exercises in memoriam of the nation's soldier dead, and although from year to year the exercises are similar in character, they never lose their interest for a great majority of the American people.
Great interest has always been shown by the people of Little Falls and vicinity in the Memorial day exercises, and this year there was no exception to the rule, for there was a large attendance.
Promptly at 1:30 the procession started from the city hall for the cemetery headed by the North Echo band, and including in its ranks were Workman Post G.A.R., members of the fire department, the Modern Woodmen of America, school children and citizens on foot and in carriages.
Rev. A. H. Carman delivered a most eloquent Memorial address, which was listened to with great interest by the large assemblage.
Attorney E. S. Smith also read Lincoln's memorable Gettysburg address.
The exercises were interspersed with appropriate music by quartet of mixed voices composed of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Staples, Mrs. W. M. Fuller and C. H. Brown with Miss Madge Cornwell as organist.
The exercises concluded with ceremonies of decorating the graves of the old soldiers, the number of which in Oakland cemetery is gradually growing year by year.
The exercises occupied about two hours, and at 3:30 the procession returned to the city.
