In a Quandary—and out of it.

A friend of ours in the town of Prattsburgh, for some time past, has been in pursuit of the Know Nothings under difficulties. He has thought—how seriously we can not say—of joining the order, but has been prevented by extraneous circumstances. He is the owner of a fine flock of Leicester Sheep, and while this would be a serious objection to his joining the order, the head and front of his offending lies in the fact that in the flock referred to, is an Ewe which was actually imported from England. The K. N.'s believing that members of their order should patronize American rather than foreign "institutions," refused to receive our friend into the order, unless he would kill, or in some other manner, dispose of this foreign Ewe. With our friend the animal was a favorite, and desperate was the struggle in his mind, between his desire to join the K. N.'s and his equally strong desire to retain ownership of the ewe. He had about determined to sacrifice the sheep, and become a member of the order, when, on the 10th inst., she brought forth three fine ewe lambs, which she is likely to raise; and this prolific demonstration of the proscribed animal, has given our friend's mind a turn in the opposite direction. He has determined to stick to the Ewe, particularly if she raises all her lambs, and "let the Know Nothings go to thunder."
