Editor Clinch Valley News:
It has come to my attention that a report is being circulated around Richlands and Raven that if elected to the Legislature I will favor legislation changing the State Highway from Raven to Grundy from its present location as fixed by the State Highway Commission so that it will run thru Russell county up Sword Creek and down Garden Creek.
This report is entirely false, and a pure fabrication for political purposes. No such thought or purpose has ever entered my mind.
So far as I have ever heard no movement is contemplated to change the location of this road as made by the State Highway Commission. I do not expect that any such attempt will be made before the Legislature.
If such attempt is made, then I will oppose it, and do everything I can to keep the location on the Coal Creek Grassy Creek Route, as it now is. I think the latter is the route that best serves the interests of my county, and in this, as in all other matters, my effort will be to do what is best for the people of the county I represent.
DR. J. W. WITTEN.
